What Can Darth Vader Do For Your Business?

b2ap3_thumbnail_vader400.jpgAs every good Stars Wars fan is well aware, May 4th is Star Wars Day (May the fourth be with you). As an IT company, we love all technology, especially tech from a long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Therefore, let us take a moment and look at the most famous technology from Star Wars, Darth Vader.

If you recall your Star Wars storyline, in Episode III, Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader) lost a light saber duel to Obi-Wan Kenobi that left him missing limbs and badly burnt from lava. Anakin was rescued by the Empire, outfitted with a mobile life support system, and then given the name Darth Vader. The suit’s main function was to keep Vader alive by assisting him with breathing. It also served as a tough battle armor that protected his burnt skin from the elements and laser blasts.

There were a few occasions in the Star Wars movies where we got to see Darth Vader with his helmet off. Under the helmet, his face is ghostly white and the mask could only be removed in a specially built meditation chamber. The helmet and the mask are locked together with a pressurized seal, and at the top, there is a pump that circulates air to his lungs and produces his signature breathing noise.

The box with buttons on his chest is a central computer that is fed neurological data on brainwave activity from needles piercing the skin. We are unclear on what operating system runs this chest computer, but one thing we can be sure of is that performing system updates is likely a pain in the rear--and every other part of his body that is configured for stimulation.

Darth Vader and Your Business

One of the more intriguing aspects about Lord Vader's helmet and armor is the fact that it is a technology that is specifically designed to give off an intimidating and fearsome vibe. Herein is the application for your business technology: what kind of image is your technology giving to your customers?

Whether it is the layout and design of your company’s website, or how your network is setup to allow or not allow for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), the technology and the usage policies that you have in place will communicate to your customers what your businesses values along with its message. If you want to rule the world of business with an iron fist and put your competition in a force choke hold, then you can harness the dark side of technology to accomplish your goal. If you want your business to have a Jar Jar Binks-like friendliness to it that makes users smile, then you can setup your technology in such a way as to communicate this.

Directive can setup your technology so that it’s not only functional (like Vader’s breathing apparatus), but also so that your tech will accurately communicate your organization’s message to the entire galaxy.
