Microsoft Fixes Vulnerability Going All the Way Back to Windows 95

Well, better late than never.
This is to be said of Microsoft after they recently patched a security flaw that’s come with every generation of its operating systems going all the way back to Windows 95.

Microsoft was notified of the vulnerability by IBM back in May. The vulnerability allowed for a remote code execution via a packet to a Windows server. Once the malicious packet is downloaded from a source like an infected URL or email, the user’s system becomes vulnerable to a remote hack that could give the hacker control of the computer.

Known as the Microsoft Schannel Remote Code Execution Vulnerability, this vulnerability can be traced back to an improper processing of data packets. Since the discovery of the vulnerability, there’s yet to be any reports of systems where a takeover like this took place. However, now that the vulnerability has been publicly announced, hackers will be quick to pounce on the opportunity and seek out computers that haven’t been patched.
