Time is Ticking… Don’t Wait to Upgrade to Windows 11!
Tuesday, October 14, 2025. That’s the day that Windows 10 will no longer be supported by Microsoft, which means you need to ensure your business has updated its devices to Windows 11 before then. This is a critical process, as failing to do so will expose your business to severe cyberthreats and regulatory shortcomings.
In addition to these issues, Microsoft has announced that support for Microsoft 365 will also end for Windows 10. For many businesses, likely including yours, this should only serve as more motivation to prioritize this migration to the more recent OS.
Let’s review what this announcement can tell us and how your business should respond.
This Move Shows Microsoft is Truly Cutting Ties with Windows 10
Microsoft clarifies this move in its support documentation by citing its Modern Lifestyle Policy.
As the company puts it, this policy “requires customers to stay current as per the servicing and system requirements for the product or service, including using Microsoft 365 on a Windows operating system that is currently in support.” This documentation then clarifies that Microsoft 365 will again have support once the up-to-date version of the operating system is in place.
To be clear: much like the Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft 365 will still technically be usable after October 14… it will just be unsafe, and offer a progressively worse experience.
What You Need to Prepare to Upgrade to Windows 11
An operating system update is not something to take lightly. Therefore, there are several considerations that you should attend to before taking the plunge.
- Is your current hardware compatible with Windows 11 and its system requirements?
To maintain your business’ productivity, you need to know that Windows 11 will work with your hardware in the first place. Windows 11 requires some very specific things of the hardware hosting it, which means you may need to upgrade your hardware as well. - Will your software work with Windows 11?
Similarly, some tools you rely on daily may not play nicely with the OS. Before switching to Windows 11, it is a good idea to check that your key business software will be compatible with it. - Do you have a backup prepared, just in case?
Murphy’s Law reminds us that what can go wrong, will… and this can easily happen during an OS update. To avoid data loss, make sure you have a backup of your business’ data to fall back on, just in case. - Have you accounted for the learning curve?
You must remember that there is a human element to any update process. With the changes to the interface and features that Windows 11 offers, some time to get used to things will be necessary. Productivity may slump slightly, so be sure you are prepared.
